Big October Sales: What I’m Watching at Amazon & Walmart

October’s big sales are close enough that I’m making lists, but not close enough to know which of the things on those lists will actually be worth buying.

This is not my attempt to predict every deal. I’m watching a few practical categories, and I’ve organized the changing shopping side into Amazon lists and my collections on Walmart. Being included in one of those lists does not mean a product will be part of the sale. It means I want to be able to find it again once the sale prices are visible.

Cozy home and sleep

This is where I’m watching for the unglamorous things that make a room more comfortable: bedding, pillows, blankets, lighting and small home items that solve an actual annoyance.

My Cozy Home & Sleep list on Amazon and Cozy Home Reset collection on Walmart are where I’m keeping those possibilities together. I’m less interested in replacing perfectly good things because October has arrived than I am in catching a useful upgrade at a better price.

Kitchen, hosting and holiday prep

Holiday preparation has a way of revealing that the storage containers have lost three lids, the serving spoon has wandered off and there are somehow never enough clean kitchen towels.

I’m watching practical cooking and hosting pieces in my Kitchen, Hosting & Holiday Prep list on Amazon and Kitchen / Cooking collection on Walmart. This is also a good category for checking what is already in the cabinet before buying a second version of it. Or, in the case of measuring spoons, a fifth version with the one useful size missing.

Crochet, crafts and making

Craft sales can become a problem very quickly because nearly every supply suggests a future project in which I am unusually organized.

I’m watching tools, storage and useful making supplies through my Crochet, Crafts & Making list on Amazon and Crafts / Making collection on Walmart. The dream is to make the supplies easier to use without first having to excavate them from three different piles.

Cat comfort and care

Cat purchases occupy a strange category somewhere between household necessity and offering tribute to a small furry supervisor.

Games, models and hobby gifts

I’m also watching gifts that give someone something to do. Games, model kits and hobby items can work for holiday gifts, family gatherings or the long stretch of weather that makes leaving the house seem unnecessarily ambitious.

Apparently anything I buy for myself eventually becomes communal property.

When the events go live, I’ll open the lists, check the things I was already considering and see whether the actual prices justify buying now. Then I’ll check the cat collection, because the small furry supervisor will have noticed if I don’t.
