Inspiration Struck

I was scrolling Pinterest when I came across a cute crochet top hat, and immediately thought of a skein of Red Heart Super Saver Rainbow Mist I’d been holding onto without a plan. The colors felt perfect for something whimsical, and pairing them with black gave the whole thing a bold contrast. It felt like the yarn finally told me what it wanted to be, so I made it—just for fun.

Crochet Top Hat Pattern I Used

I followed the St. Pattie’s Crochet Rainbow Top Hat pattern from Traverse Bay Crochet as my starting point.

A Cozy Dinner Story While I Crocheted

While I was working on the hat, we were placing a Walmart+ delivery order and came across Stouffer’s Beef Enchiladas. We usually get the chicken ones—they’ve been a steady part of our comfort‑food rotation since the kids were little and picky—but when the beef version popped up, all three of us said, “Oh, that sounds good.” So we added it for a lazy day.

Well… that lazy day turned out to be that day.

My son, who usually cooks, had fallen asleep while I was finishing the hat, so I just put the enchiladas in myself and let him rest. A couple hours later, dinner was done, the hat was finished, and I woke him up wearing it.

I said, “Hey, it’s 6pm—don’t you think you should cook?” He jumped up, half‑asleep, going, “Oh yeah,” and I went back to my computer.

A few minutes later he wandered into the kitchen and said, “Hey, there’s food here… where did that come from?”

I whipped the hat off my head and said, “I pulled it out of my hat.” He laughed and said, “Good one, Mom.”

And honestly? The enchiladas were so good. I was actually disappointed there weren’t leftovers—I wanted more for lunch the next day.

Final Thoughts

This little crochet top hat wasn’t planned, but it turned into one of those joyful, low‑pressure makes that reminds me why I love crochet. A fun pattern, a colorful yarn, a cozy dinner, and a silly moment with my son—sometimes that’s all you need.
